BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- The incoming state rep. Christina Ayala was arrested and charged with breach of peace after police say she slapped her live in boyfriend.

She was in court today and the judge told her to stay away from her boyfriend.

According to a police report, Christina Ayala told police that she had confronted her boyfriend about cheating on her and that's when things escalated. The report says he told cops that she didn't want them involved because of who she was.

New 8 stopped by the home that Ayala and her boyfriend shared. She spoke to us from inside.

"No thank you ma'am," Ayala said.

"You don't want to issue a comment," News 8's Ali Reed asked.

"No. No comment," Ayala said.

Her older sister dropped by to see her and told us Ayala is doing okay.

"Just a beautiful person. She's my baby sister and I love her, thank you," Ines Ayala said.

"Were you surpised to hear about this arrest? Did you know her boyfriend," News 8's Reed asked.

"I have no other comment," Ines Ayala said.

This is not Ayala's first run-in with the law.

Back in August, the day after she won the Democratic primary, police say she fled the scene of an accident, which injured a driver. She is still fighting the motor vehicle charges in court.

We talked to some Bridgeport residents and the man she beat in the race to claim the State Rep. seat about her latest arrest.

"I am not surprised at all, not surprised at all," Republican Manuel Bataguas said on the phone. It's a shame and the Democratic party should be ashamed and they are the ones that should be left responsible for this."

"If you break the law you have to pay the price. I don't care who you are, what you are. Too many people think that because they have connections they could do what they want. If you break the law you have to pay," Carleen McDowell of Bridgeport said.

Ayala is said to be sworn in to public office in January.
