NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - The lawyer for a woman charged with murder says she acted in self-defense when she fatally shot her boyfriend at a Berlin Turnpike motel.
Alanna Carey of Glastonbury was arraigned in New Britain Superior Court on Wednesday. The Hartford Courant reports that her lawyer, Patrick Tomasiewicz, says Edward Landry pulled a knife on her during a dispute Monday night and she acted to save her life.
Bail was set at $1 million.
Police say Carey called 911 from the motel in Newington and said she and her boyfriend were talking when he became angry and came out with a knife. Police say she told the dispatcher she became scared and shot him.
Police say the 44-year-old Landry was shot three times.
