Madison, Conn. (WTNH) - Police are investigating a homicide at a beachfront home in Madison.
"State Police Major Crime has responded, along with the State's Attorneys Office, as well as Madison and we are following all leads," said Sgt. Johnathan Pardo of the Madison Police Dept.
A woman was found dead in the yard of a home on Middle Beach Road around 11:30am. State police tell News Channel 8 the woman was in her late 40's. The victim has not been identified.
"She was found outside the residence," said Sgt. Pardo.
Although no name has been released, News Channel 8 has learned that Barbara Hamburg, a woman in her late 40's, rents the house.
Laurie Heflin used to live there and described the shoreline home in the affluent neighborhood.
"It's a small; I know because it was the first home I lived in as a married person," Heflin said.
Madison police have also been on scene at the Madison Country Club not far from the crime scene. It's not clear yet what they are looking for.
What is known is that Barbara Hamburg was supposed to be at a court hearing Wednesday morning but never showed up, but her ex-husband Jeffrey Hamberg did. It was a hearing in New Haven about the couple's divorce which was final back in 2001.
The investigation has led authorities to Jeffrey Hamburg's West Hartford condo and a business in Windsor.
Neighbors, News Channel 8 spoke to, say that although Jeffrey Hamburg lives in their condo complex, and has been here for about a year, they have seen him only once. At his front door, there are unread newspapers. The people in that area are surprised especially when they saw state police ringing the front door looking for him.
In Madison, police confirm they do not have a warrant for Jeffery Hamburg. They do have several good leads in the case and are hoping to make an arrest soon, but right now they want to talk to any witnesses or anyone who might know what happened.
"We are looking for anyone who has information on the death of the woman," said Sgt. Pardo.
The medical examiner will have to determine cause of death. Anyone with information is asked to call the Madison Police Dept. at (203) 245-2721.
