Madison, Conn. (WTNH) - Police still want to question the ex-husband of a woman who was found dead in her Madison yard earlier this month.
It looks like Madison and State Police Detectives were on a sort of stake out at court, Wednesday. A child support case involving Jeffrey Hamburg is on the docket and police have said they are trying to talk to him following the killing of his ex-wife Barbara.
He did not appear.
Cox: "Why wasn't your client here?"
Paul Carty, Divorce Lawyer: "I don't know; I don't know."
Barbara Hamburg, 48, was found dead on the same day she was due in court over the thousands of dollars her ex-husband owed in back child support,
But this morning Jeffrey Hamburg filed for bankruptcy; a move that could delay him having to pay up.
News Channel 8 dug deep into the bankruptcy records to see if we could get an indication of where Jeffrey Hamburg might be. Turns out he filed Chapter 7 electronically so he didn't have to show up in court for that. News Channel 8 also found a certificate of a credit counseling session that was over the phone.
"I did speak with him and he seems to be doing well," said Bankruptcy Lawyer Lawrence Dressler.
The lawyer representing Barbara Hamburg's estate claims assets are being hidden.
So, he subpoenaed Defense Lawyer Hugh Keefe wanting to know how much a bankrupt Hamburg paid to hire the high profile attorney once his ex-wife turned up dead.
Keefe is fighting the motion.
The officers didn't say why they were present but Hamburg's divorce lawyer calls it an intimidation tactic.
"In as much as there is no warrant outstanding to my knowledge I believe its an intimidation factor because they know he doesn't have to speak with them," Carty said.
Keefe did meet behind closed doors with those detectives today but he declined to share with News Channel 8 what they talked about.
