BOZRAH, Conn. (WTNH) - Tonight police in Bozrah are investigating acts of vandalism because someone has been smashing mailboxes around town.

The owner of one mailbox which can no longer be closed says he owns another house just up street, and that one was knocked off the post completely.

Several others were vandalized on Gifford Lane, Gager Road, and Wahconah Drive. Some boxes were left lying in the snow, others were set on a snow bank. Even newspaper boxes were targeted.

"I was leaving for work one morning and I backed, and I noticed that our mailbox was knocked over and I didn't know if somebody had hit it by accident and then as I was going down the road I noticed almost all the mailboxes were gone or tipped over," says Denise Scott of Bozrah.

She believes the vandals struck at night.

"We came out in the morning and it was totally just ruined, the box was just smashed," says Michael Williams.

Williams found his mailbox smashed and knocked off it's post. He put it back on as is while Scott zip tied hers to the post.

"It was definitely upsetting because have to not get our mail if our mailboxes are not up on the post," says Scott.

No box no mail. The town is urging residents to let police know if they were targeted, and to keep an eye out for these vandals.

"You got to catch someone doing it, so it's kind of tough. Everybody's got to go out and buy new mailboxes now," says Williams.

Due to the types of dents left in some of the mailboxes folks believe some people just came by with a baseball bat and started hitting them.
