MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was taken to the hospital after being accidentally shot in Meriden Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:30 p.m., police received a 911 call from 14 Maple Branch. The caller indicated that a man there had been shot in the neck.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim inside the 2nd floor apartment, as well as numerous other people. The man was taken to Midstate Medical Center and then eventually transported via LifeStar to Hartford Hospital.
Initial investigation has determined that all parties, who had been inside the apartment together, appeared to have been playing video games.
Police said a shotgun was present and it appears that the parties believed the gun was unloaded. Another man in the apartment was handling the gun when it discharged and struck the victim in the neck area.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
The investigation is ongoing.
