Plainfield, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was arrested after stealing his neighbor's rain gutters in Plainfield Saturday morning.
Around 5:30 a.m., police received a report of suspicious activity on North Main Street.
A passing motorist told police she had seen two males walking around carrying what appeared to be several pieces of scrap metal. The woman said the duo seemed to be looking into driveways and walking around residences in the area.
Upon arrival, police found 18-year-old Robert B. Authelet, of 433 North Main St., walking through his neighbor's residence at 425-427 North Main St., carrying rain gutters and downspouts.
After investigating, police discovered that Authelet had removed the rain gutters and downspouts from his neighbor's home so he could scrap them for money.
Authelet is facing charges of sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief.
He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 7th.
Police believe that the second individual, whose name is currently being withheld, saw police in the area and fled the scene on foot.
Authelet was arrested again shortly after 7 PM by police after he entered a vacant home and attempted to steal the copper piping. Police say Authelet and a 17-year-old were seen at the vacant home at 284 Main Street in Moosup. When police arrived at the area, they saw Authelet carrying the copper piping from the home.
The 17-year-old was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit mischief, and larceny. Authelet now faces additional charges of burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief, and larceny.
Additional arrests are expected.
The investigation is ongoing.
