Man arrested for voyeurism at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was arrested for taking pictures of a woman under a shower stall at Wesleyan University Tuesday.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m., at 156 High St., on the Wesleyan University Campus.

When officers arrived on the scene, the victim told police she had gone into the shower and was aware that there was a male in the shower next to hers, as the bathroom is coed. Then she heard the other shower shut off and at least twice, saw a hand with a camera phone reach under her stall and possibly take pictures of her.

Police obtained a written and sworn statement of the incident from the witness. Police then obtained a written and sworn confession from 19-year-old Robert Rotaru, of 85 Jackson Rd., Higganum.

Rotaru told police that he had taken four separate pictures under the shower stall of the victim. Two of the pictures were of his own hands, while the other two were of the victim's legs to thigh level.

Additionally, Rotaru told police he heard the victim say, "excuse me! What are you doing?" and he told her "I'm sorry" and left the bathroom.

Rotaru was arrested and charged with voyeurism and disorderly conduct.

He is being held on a $10,000 bond.
