NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police arrested a Hamden man Thursday after pulling him away from his ex-girlfriend as he assaulted her.
Shortly after 4 p.m., police were called to 343 Peck St. for reports of a man beating up a woman. A caller told police he'd witnessed the attack and tried to help the woman, but wasn't able to overpower the attacker.
When officers arrived they saw the man attacking the woman inside a car. Police said he was punching her and grabbing her breasts. Police ordered the man to stop and get out of the car, but he ignored the request. Officers then proceeded to pull the man from the car and to the ground.
Police said Brandon Shelton, 22, of Hamden, is the subject of a court order of protection.
He was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, fourth-degree sexual assault and violation of a protective order.
