VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was arrested after breaking into a home and assaulting his ex-girlfriend Sunday.
Just before 7 p.m., Vernon police received a report of an assault at 88 Union Street.
Upon investigating, officers learned that Quintin Bennett had entered an apartment and assaulted an ex-girlfriend.
Police said several people in the apartment witnessed the assault including a two-year old child. The witnesses helped the woman and removed Bennett from the apartment.
Bennett then fled on foot and was located by police a short distance away.
He was charged with risk of injury to a minor, home invasion, third-degree sex assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, and false statement.
Bennett was held on a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
