NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man fired gunshots Friday night, police say, when he was reportedly looking for marijuana and could not get any.
Police received a complaint shortly before 10 p.m. Friday about a man who took out a handgun and started firing gunshots. This all happened in the area of Cedar Grove Avenue and Waller Street.
The witnesses told police the man was looking for marijuana and when he could not find any, he fired shots in response. The witnesses fled on foot and none of them were hit by the gunfire.
A police canine unit located two spent shell casings in a wooded area near where the shots were fired.
Police say that two cell phones were also reported missing and it is believed that the man who shot the handgun may have stolen the cell phones.
The suspect is described as a light skinned black male, approximately 6'1" tall with a medium build and braided hair. He was wearing a baseball cap, a black shirt and shorts.
Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call the New London Police Department Detective Division at (860) 447-1481.
