Man charged for sexual assault of minor

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a child.

On Wednesday, police arrested Augustine Castro of 461 Whalley Avenue, Apt 101B, New Haven at his home without incident.

Castro allegedly sexually assaulted a child between 2001 and 2006. The child was between 6 and 8-year-old at the time, police said.

Castro was charged with first-degree sexual assault and 2 counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Catro was held on a $200,000 bond and was arraigned in Meriden Superior court later that afternoon.

His next scheduled court date is Jan. 23.
