SUFFIELD, Conn. (AP) — An Enfield man has been arrested and charged in the deaths of three hunting beagles that were shot and killed by his son.
Police say 54-year-old John Lake was charged Wednesday with cruelty to animals by complicity, unlawful discharge of firearms by complicity, risk of injury to a minor and illegal hunting by a minor.
Lake posted $5,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned later this month in Enfield Superior Court.
The three beagles were shot and killed by Lake's 13-year-old son on Nov. 10. Police said they were hunting when the boy saw the beagles chasing deer and shot them, thinking it would please his father.
A phone message was left at a number listed for Lake's home.
