FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Farmington man faces charges he abused a disabled person who was under his care.
Police were called to Robert James Retallick's apartment on Scott Swamp Road in Farmington after a third party determined the person living with him was in need of medical care.
The 47-year-old was accused of removing the victim's lifeline medical alert, so the victim couldn't call for help.
The victim was removed from Retallick's home and is no longer under his care.
When police attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Wednesday morning, Retallick refused to allow them in and threatened they would need a body bag if they entered.
Officers forced their way inside and found Retallick cutting himself with a large kitchen knife. He was ordered to stop, but when he refused, an officer fired one less lethal bean bag round at him, causing him to drop the knife.
Retallick was arrested and transported to Hartford Hospital to be treated.
He was charged with cruelty to persons and interfering with police. He was given a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 26.
