NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend.
Manuel Crespo, 25, was arrested on Saturday after his 22-year-old girlfriend told police he tried to suffocate her.
The victim told police that Crespo physically attacked her after they had gotten into an argument. She said he pinned her down, spit in her face and tried to suffocate her by holding his hand over her mouth while sitting on top of her.
When she struggled to free herself, she says Crespo asked her where his gun was. She told him that she had hidden it.

The victim was taken to Yale- New Haven hospital to be evaluated.
Crespo was charged with second degree strangulation, second degree unlawful restraint, second degree threatening, third degree assault of a pregnant person and disorderly conduct.
