NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven public works employee has been placed on paid leave after police say he was found in a drunken stupor in his car with a gun in his hand.

43-year-old Simon Williams, a city refuse worker, was off-duty when he was arrested for DUI on May 23.

Police are trying to determine if the gun, a .40-caliber handgun, was used in as many as three reports of gunfire in the city that were reported the same day.
