WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man died after being shot in the head in Waterbury late Saturday night.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m., outside 127 Proctor St.

Police said 27-year-old David Caban, of 127 Proctor St., was sitting in the back seat of a white Mitsubishi Gallant when he was shot.

There were two other men in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, the driver and a front seat passenger.

Police said the Gallant sped off with Caban still in the vehicle. Caban was then left in the road at the intersection of Proctor St. and Sylvan Ave.

Caban was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries around 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police believe Caban and the suspects knew one another. They are following up on several leads.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 203-755-1234.
