Man gets 60 years in prison for Pomfret killing

DANIELSON, Conn. (AP) — A former Pomfret man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for stabbing his girlfriend to death in 2009.

The Norwich Bulletin reports that 48-year-old Timothy Quail Sr. received the maximum sentence for murder Monday in Danielson Superior Court. A jury convicted him earlier this year in the killing of 38-year-old Robin Cloutier.

Judge Patricia Swords said there was overwhelming evidence that Quail repeatedly stabbed Cloutier and beat her with a baseball bat, and she said she was shocked by Quail's lack of remorse and claims of innocence.

Authorities say Quail killed Cloutier in December 2009, shortly after moving into her Pomfret home.

Cloutier's father, Thomas Audrain, called Quail a pathetic, drunken, dope-addicted murderer at the sentencing.

Quail reasserted his innocence and questioned the evidence during the hearing.
