WATERFORD, Conn. (WTNH)-- Waterford police dealt with an standoff with an armed man on Saturday night.
Police say they initially responded to a verbal domestic dispute on Ferri Drive, when they learned the person inside the residence threatened to shoot the first police officer he saw.
Despite that threat, this standoff at the Woodland Mobile Homes Park, a trailer park just off Boston Post Road, ended peacefully after about six hours.
According to police, they got a 911 call from someone inside the home. That person was eventually able to leave, while the suspect remained barricaded inside.
Neighbors in the area were evacuated around 3 PM.
After negotiations by the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit , the suspect was coaxed out of his home. He was then transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
Nobody was injured but police say the man could face charges.
Witnesses at the scene say they saw police and an ambulance rush over to the trailer where the alleged suspect had barricaded himself inside.
Neighbors also say the alleged suspect was on medication to help him cope with pain from a previous injury, however they never expected anything like a standoff situation.
“He was very pleasant. He was very quiet and pleasant,” said resident Beverly Rose. “I never think that this would ever happen.”
The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford police at 860- 442-9451.
