NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- New Haven police are investigating the city's 11th homicide of the year.

Reuben Gonzalez, 27, was shot just before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the area of 47 Atwater Street.

"I seen the guy on the ground. They were picking him up," said Maria Gill. "It's a shame. I heard the commotion and I looked out and seen everybody running over there."

Gonzalez was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say preliminary information suggests Gonzalez was shot during a robbery.

One woman told News 8's Kent Pierce she heard someone shouting and pleading, "Don't shoot him."

Police have not yet released information about the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call new Haven Police at 203-946- 6304 or the Tips hotline at 203-946-6296.
