MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man charged with sexually assaulting a woman with terminal cancer has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced to five years of probation.
The Hartford Courant reports that 23-year-old Alexander Luong of Clinton pleaded guilty under the Alford doctrine Tuesday in Middletown Superior Court to attempted fourth-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint. The plea means Luong doesn't agree with the allegations, but concedes there's enough evidence to be convicted.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 11.
Prosecutors say Luong touched the woman in a sexual way and tried to force her to perform a sex act earlier this year at a home in Clinton. Officials say the woman was bedridden with Stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer. She told authorities she didn't want Luong to go to jail.
