WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for stabbing his 8-month-old daughter as she lay in her crib because of a dispute with his wife.
In a deal with prosecutors, 35-year-old Orlando Figueroa of Waterbury pleaded guilty to attemped murder and two counts of risk of injury to a child. He did not comment during Tuesday's court
hearing.
Police said Figueroa stabbed the baby in the chest, and held a knife to another daughter's throat in the 2009 rampage at his apartment. Police broke in and rescued the older child. The baby
has recovered.
Prosecutors said Figueroa told them he attacked the children to get back at their mother, whom he believed was having an affair.
