NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven man was hospitalized after being shot during an attempted robbery in New Haven Monday night.
The incident happened just before 9 p.m., at Dairy Mart, 287 Blake St.
Upon arrival, police found 21-year-old Montrell Brewer suffering from four gun shot wounds, including one to the abdomen and a graze to the head.
Brewer was conscious at the scene and told police he'd been the victim of an attempted robbery.
According to witnesses, Brewer had just left the store when he was confronted by an armed man. Brewer was shot in the parking lot and ran inside after.
He was taken by ambulance to the St. Raphael's campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is listed in critical, but stable condition.
Police are searching for a black Honda Civic that was seen leaving the lot immediately after the victim was shot. However, they say the vehicle might not have been involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6316.
