New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - Police in New Haven are investigating a shooting Friday that killed a city man.

The victim has been identified as 53-year old Derrick Suggs.

It happened Friday around 1am on West Street.

Police say the victim was shot multiple times in the chest with a semi-automatic weapon.  Evidence markers litter the street at the scene, marking shell casings and even a bottle of water.

Grisel Galicia says all the gunshots woke her up.

"I would say between 15 and 20 shots," she said. "I heard everything, I heard yelling and then after that it went quiet."

Police have not released the victim's name, and it's unclear if police have identified any suspects.
