Man threatens plow drivers with shotgun

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) -- During the height of the big storm last Friday night a Middletown man is accused of threatening a couple of plow truck drivers.

Police say the guy waved a shot-gun at the drivers because they were dumping snow on his property.

You don't need a measuring stick to realize we have more snow than we can handle and if extra snow is pushed onto your property, it might send some over the edge.

"He came out of his house with a shotgun telling the guys very clearly to remove the snow," said Lt. Heather Desmond, Middletown Police.

56-year old James Bankowski, who lives at 214 George Street in Middletown, was upset that private contractors had pushed snow to his property from a condominium complex across the street and he clearly let them know how he felt by pointing a loaded shotgun.

"We called Mr. Bankowski on the phone and we asked him what had transpired and he said yes, that's what occurred, that yes I did use my shotgun and tell the guys to remove the snow and we asked him to come out of his residence which he did, he was fully cooperative," said Lt. Desmond.

Bankowski was arrested, but police advise instead of taking matters into your own hands, no matter how agitated you are, call the police first.

"This does happen alot. We get a lot of complaints about people pushing snow across the street or as they are pushing the snow across the street, leaving piles of it and mounds of it within the street," said Lt. Desmond.

All of Bankowski's charges are misdameanors. His first scheduled court date in Middletown is February 22nd.
