NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Woodbridge man allegedly told police "Why bother, I'm intoxicated," when asked to take a field sobriety test following a collision that injured an off-duty New Haven police officer.
Police say Scott Marsh, 42, rear-ended Lt. Holly Wasilewski's personal car while she was stopped in traffic on North Frontage Road at Dwight Street around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday night.
She was taken to Yale- New Haven Hospital for treatment.
The force of the crash caused Wasilewski's car to collided with the car in front of it. The two people inside were not injured.
According to reports, Marsh was rude, belligerent, and when he was asked to take a standardized field sobriety test, he replied, "Why bother, I'm intoxicated."
Marsh was taken to police headquarters, where he refused to both take a blood alcohol test and to sign a refusal form.
Police say at one point, Marsh asked the responding officers about the other people involved in the crash and when he was told they were okay, Marsh said, "Just answer my [expletive] questions like a white boy!"
Marsh was charged with driving under the influence, following too close and traveling too fast for the condition.
