NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Naugatuck man turned himself into police after he admitted to "padding" an insurance claim and falsely reporting a burglary.

On October 31, 2011 42-year-old James Jackson reported that a 2004 custom chopper motorcycle worth $25,000 was stolen from his garage in an apparent burglary.

Jackson reported that lawnmowers, lawn tools and power tools were also stolen from the garage. Jackson also told police electronics, home appliances, computer equipment, and other items were taken from inside his Maple Hill Road home.

As police investigated the burglary, they received two tips that stated Jackson's report was fraudulent and the items reportedly stolen were actually hidden in his basement.

On April 18, police confronted Jackson who admitted to "padding" the insurance claim. He also admitted to cashing over $24,000 in insurance payments.

Police found the motorcycle cut up and in pieces in the basement of Jackson's home. Other items he had reported stolen were also found in the basement.

Jackson turned himself into the Naugatuck Police Department on May 18. He was charged with second degree falsely reporting an incident and first degree larceny.

He was released on a $10,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on May 30.
