NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)-- It's not just the four shots fired that is disturbing a New Fairfield neighborhood, but it's word a husband pulled the trigger, killing his wife.
"Yeah, terribly surprised, you never know about these things," said neighbor Norman Taylor.
"It's shocking and nothing you would expect," said neighbor Keith Mackenzie.
State police say the husband, Robert Bell, 63, actually called 9-1-1 Saturday night, saying he and his wife had some kind of altercation and that he shot Svetlana, 47. He was asking for an ambulance but it was too late.
She died later at the hospital.
Neighbors say there's no history of trouble at 8 Hilltop Drive.
Mackenzie said, "there were never any police activity here that would set off any bells or whistles. No, it's a quiet neighborhood, quiet neighbors, never a problem."
Neighbors said the couple had a teen-aged daughter. Now, they are worried about her, having to know her father allegedly shot and killed her mother.
"We are really upset, they have a teen-aged daughter that is a brilliant brilliant girl, and what does she have left now. That is the biggest concern right now," said Mackenzie.
Detectives say it appears the wife was shot four times in the chest and the husband is in custody. He is due in court Monday morning.
