NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Britain man appeared in court to face charges that included manslaughter with a motor vehicle.

Demetrious Lausell, 31, was killed on Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of Whiting and John Streets in New Britain. Police say the driver of that car, 42-year-old Rafelito Ares, fled the scene after the crash.

Police say Ares was involved in another accident later that afternoon where he struck another car. He was arrested after trying to flee the scene on foot.

On Friday, he was presented in court to face charges of improper turn, operating under suspension, evading responsibility-death, failure to carry insurance card, operating under the influence of alcohol and or drugs and second degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle.

His bond was set at $800,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court again on July 17.
