NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A 31-year-old New Britain man has been sentenced to nearly 26 years in prison for forcing two 14-year-old girls to work as prostitutes at hotels in Hartford and East Hartford.
Jarell Sanderson was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in New Haven by Judge Mark Kravitz. He pleaded guilty in January to engaging in the sex trafficking of children.
Prosecutors say the teens ran away from a state Department of Children and Families shelter in 2009 and went to Sanderson and his partner, Hassanah Delia, for help.
Prosecutors say the pair used an Internet ad to sell the girls for sex at the hotels. Prosecutors say Sanderson threatened to kill the teens if they resisted.
Delia also pleaded guilty to sex trafficking charges and awaits sentencing.
