New Britain, Conn. (WTNH) - Police say a man held up a West Hartford bank and then fled to New Britain where he was eventually captured in a resident's garage.
While in custody, detectives say 43-year-old Edwin Bermudez confessed, telling them he did it to get cash for crack cocaine.
His cooperation prompted the judge to reduce his bond.
However, Bermudez still faces serious charges
A teller at the Bank of America, on New Britian Avenue in West Hartford, said the robber gave her a note claiming to have a bomb and a gun. She filled a duffel bag with about $8,000 cash.
Police say while pursuing Bermudez, he drove right into his own driveway on Alexander Road dropping what turned out to be a fake gun before running through several back yards.
In catching Bermudez, police may have gotten more than they bargained for. In court documents, detectives say he confessed to other bank robberies in New Britain.
