New Haven man arrested on drug charges

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 23-year-old New Haven man was arrested on drug charges.

On Nov. 16 around 5:30 p.m. officers spotted a BMW blocking a private driveway.

Elvis Diaz, 23, of Beach View Lane rolled down his window when police approached the car. The officers smelled marijuana and asked Diaz if he had any in the car.

According to police, Diaz said yeah and handed them a sandwich bag of marijuana. When the officers asked if there was any more in the car, Diaz said no, but officers later found another bag on the floor, police reported.

The marijuana was rocovered along with $1,805 and his iPhone.

During an intake search at the Police Detention facility, an officer found four bags of cocaine Diaz brought with him.

Diaz was charged with the commission of eight druh crimes including the introduction of contraband into a correctional facility and one motor vehicle violation.
