NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- A New Haven man was arrested on gun charges after shots were fired at a home on Thursday night.
Police responded to call at 60 Frank Street around 9:12 PM, of a man on a bicycle firing two shots at a house.
While officers searched the neighborhood for the gunman, they said a woman approached their cruiser on Howard Avenue and Putnam Street, to point out a man in a hooded sweatshirt, that she claimed was holding a gun, before he concealed it in his waistband.
The suspect, Jose Antonio Suarez-Colon, 21, was walking toward the entrance of Star of Jacob Church when spotted by police.
Police say when the suspect, Jose Antonio Suarez-Colon, 21,saw them approach, he threw what was in his hand at a base of a tree, and took off running.
When police cornered him in the church parking lot, Suarez-Colon refused to show officers his hands and attempted to run away, before the officers grabbed his arms. He also attempted to strike the officers and even tried to escape after he was handcuffed.
Suarez-Colon told police that the gun wasn't his and someone else had shot at the house. He also told police that the gun wasn't the gun they were looking for.
Police say the recovered gun was a Olympic 38 starter-pistol.
Suarez-Colon was charged with carrying a facsimile firearm, criminal trespass, interfering with police and breach of peace.
