NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A New Haven man has been charged with threatening to kill his estranged wife and her mother in a text message.
West Haven police tell the New Haven Register that 29-year-old Lawrence Welch Jr. sent a text to his wife on July 11 which read in part, "Watch you and your mother get a bullet in the head."
Welch was charged Wednesday with second-degree threatening and second-degree harassment and was released after posting a $20,000 bond.
Police say he does not have any guns registered in his name, but did have a firearms permit revoked.
Welch could not be reached for comment Thursday morning. He has no listed phone number and it was not immediately clear if he has hired an attorney.
