New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - Two men that served 16 years behind bars for the murder of a New Haven shop owner recently had their convictions overturned by a Superior Court judge. Now the wife of Ronald Taylor is speaking out about how she hopes life will be able to get back to normal.

Ronald Taylor and George Gould were serving 80 years for the 1993 murder of Eugenio Vega DeLeon.

Superior Court Judge Stanley Fuger ruled Thursday that Taylor and Gould are "actually innocent" of the crime and even threw out their arrest warrants. His ruling came after a star witness recanted.

Taylor's wife says she always knew her husband was innocent. "Never, never, never I never believed he did it. I never believed he did it."

Mary says Ron maintained his innocence throughout the trial.

"He said 'no, I didn't kill anybody and I'm not going to say I did.' So he never took a plea deal, he took it to court, he took it to trial," she said.

And if you knew Ron, you would know he would not be capable of murder.

"The father he was, teaching her how to ride her bike, having tea parties. This big guy sitting on the living room floor having tea parties, Barbie dolls," she said.

Taylor and Gould have not been freed from prison yet. Prosecutors were granted an emergency stay of the ruling to decide whether to appeal.
