NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — The family of a slain New Haven teenager is outraged after a jury acquitted the shooter of first-degree manslaughter and found her guilty instead of a lesser crime that carries 10 fewer years in prison.

A New Haven Superior Court jury convicted 20-year-old Lissette Chiclana on Thursday of second-degree manslaughter with a firearm, which carries one to 10 years in prison. She was also convicted of a weapons charge that carries up to five years in prison. Sentencing is set for June 8.

Chiclana accidentally shot 16-year-old Jamese Hudson in the head two years ago in New Haven during what Chiclana said was a "game" of pointing the gun at each other.

The New Haven Register reports that Hudson's mother screamed shortly after the verdicts were announced.
