Hartford (AP) - Connecticut's Correction Department says a man accused of holding his ex-wife hostage and burning down their South Windsor house during a standoff has been released from a hospital and taken to prison.

An agency spokesman says 60-year-old Richard Shenkman was brought to a prison in Suffield on Wednesday after being released from Hartford Hospital, where he was treated for smoke inhalation.

Shenkman is being held in lieu of $12.5 million bond on kidnapping, arson and other charges.

Police say he abducted Nancy Tyler Tuesday morning and held her hostage at the South Windsor home they used to share during a 13-hour standoff with authorities.

Officials say Tyler got out of the house before Shenkman set it aflame and eventually surrendered.
