Man sentenced in bogus money case

Hartford (AP) - A federal judge in Connecticut has sentenced a former Danbury man to a year and a day in prison for possessing counterfeit cash.

Epaminondas Soares, 41, was sentenced Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Soares and another man were found with more than $35,000 in counterfeit $100 bills during a traffic stop in North Carolina last year

Prosecutors say the two men admitted passing nearly $9,000 in bogus cash at several Hartford area stores.
