Police in Bridgeport are investigating after a mother and daughter were found fatally shot inside their home. News of the shooting has stunned the neighborhood.

There is an obvious uneasiness from neighbors on Burnsford Avenue in Bridgeport. Up and down the street, there are glaring lights, men in blue with a grave look on their faces and yellow tape. Rumors cover the area like the rain.

"I was just driving home from work, I saw the cops. It's kind of frightening, I stopped, getting various stories about someone was shooting," said Debbie Giley a neighbor. "I haven't heard much details. Someone said it was a mother and a daughter."

Two bodies were discovered by officers around 3:30 Monday afternoon in a large two-story home. Hours later, the pair, who had gunshot wounds, had been identified -- 48-year old Ann Marie Rino, and her 8-year old daughter, Gabriella Marin Rino.

"You knew that something happened with the barrier sign. That was my first thought, there must have been a shootin', there hasn't been any in this neighborhood in a long time," said Giley.

That changed in an alarming fashion. But police stress the unfortunate chain of events did not stray out of the confines of the home.

That news seemed to calm some who live in the well-kept section of the Park City. But it doesn't cap the curiosity. If the neighborhood isn't in danger, then what happened inside and why?

"It's a tragedy, it's an isolated incident. We don't feel that anybody is in danger at this point," said Acting Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. "We think it's over, that there's no danger to any of the neighbors."

The crime is over but the sense of normalcy is still in a state of suspension.
