New Haven (WTNH) - Hill Regional Career High School and Davis Street School, on Orchard street, were in lock down mode Thursday afternoon. A search was on for a suspect who crashed a stolen car into a New Haven police officer, leaving the officer injured.

Police were chasing a stolen car out of Waterbury with two people in it when the car collided with the cruiser at the intersection of Winthrop, Auburn and Sylvan Streets.

The officer, who has been on the force for 17-years, was taken to an area hospital. She is said to have suffered minor injuries.

Both suspects took off on foot after the crash.

Police had found one juvenile suspect on Vine Street, but the second suspect is still at large.

Neighbors described the scene as chaotic and confusing. "I didn't know what was going on," said witness Curtis Beamon. "I was just looking at what was happening."

Area schools went into lockdown until 3:30 p.m. when authorities deemed it safe for people to leave the buildings.
