Milford (WTNH) - A Milford police officer has been charged with two counts of manslaughter in connection to a car crash that killed two Orange teens.
Officer Jason Anderson was on-duty in his police cruiser when he crashed into Dave Servin and Ashlie Krakowski, both 19-years old and of Orange, on June 13th.
"This is a tragic case. Tragic for everybody. [It's] tragic obviously for the families of the two dead young people. [It's] very tragic for Officer Anderson and his family and he knows that," said Defense Attorney Hugh Keefe.
Milford Police Chief Keith Mello issued the following statement:
Based on his arrest, Jason Anderson has been suspended from the department, pending an internal administrative investigation of his actions regarding the accident on June 13, 2009. The administrative investigation, which is separate and distinct from the criminal investigation, which could not be conducted until the complete details of the accident investigation were made available by the State Police. The internal review is a necessary process that will determine the appropriate administrative action to be taken in this matter. Once the administrative investigation is completed, I will report my findings to the Board of Police Commissioners, along with a recommendation regarding appropriate internal sanctions. I have requested a copy of the State Police Accident report, which I expect to receive shortly.
"He has an excellent police record. It's one of these cases where you pretty much expect you will go to trial, not be disposed of through any plea disposition. There's just too much at stake," said Keefe.
Anderson has also been charged with reckless driving. He was
released on a $250,000 bond and is due in court on November 24.
Keefe says his client will plead not guilty.
