Cheshire (WTNH) - A book that one of the suspects helped write about the case could lead to a delay in going to trial.
The judge is giving lawyers for suspect Steven Hayes the option of possibly delaying jury selection because of that book now on store shelves.
The book, "In the Middle of the Night: A Family Killed in Cold Blood," was written based on conversations the author had with suspect Joshua Komisarjevsky even though he is in prision and there is a gag order preventing anyone involved in the case from speaking.
Because the other suspect Steven Hayes goes on trial first, his lawyers are raising concerns about its impact on the judicial process and is now considering possibly asking for a delay in jury selection.
In the book, Komisarjevsky goes into detail about the murders of Jennifer Hawke Petit and her two daughters Hayley and Michaela. He even speaks of pouring gasoline to set the house on fire.
The lone survivor of the attack, Dr William Petit, has asked people to boycott the book, speaking to reporters today, he should now slow down the judicial process.
Dr Petite told us today he has now written to the attorney general, asking Richard Blumenthal to investigate how the department of correction allowed Komisarjevsky to have contact with the author.
Blumenthal responded by releasing this statement: "We understand and respect Dr. Petit's concerns, which we share, and we will do everything we can to address them. An investigation has been underway to determine facts relating to Brian McDonald's interviewing Joshua Komisarjevsky. "
