Not guilty plea in Essex Alpaca stabbing

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — A 21-year-old Westbrook man has pleaded not guilty to charges he stabbed four Alpacas to death on an Essex farm in December.

The Middletown Press reports that while in Superior Court Tuesday, Kyle Roscetti also denied violating his probation for a criminal mischief conviction from 2011.

Roscetti and 23-year-old Shawn Malcarne face cruelty to animal and other charges in the deaths of the Alpacas, who were found dead at Applesauce Acres Farm on Dec. 23.

Prosecutors say the animals were apparently killed for sport. Police say a nose ring found at the scene led them to their suspects.

Roscetti is due back in court on July 19. Malcarne, who also has pleaded not guilty, has a court date on June 28.
