'Not guilty' to setting woman on fire

New Haven (WTNH) - A New Haven man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire made a tearful appearance before a judge today.

Howard Stewart is facing arson and assault charges stemming from the November 15th incident. He pled not guilty.

The victim remains hospitalized with burns on over 40-percent of her body. Stewart allegedly also threw accelerant on the victim's 12-year old daughter, but she was not burned.

Stewart is due back in court December 9th.
