PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Two men were arrested after attempting to steal wire from a storage yard at Connecticut Light & Power in Plainfield, police said.
The incident happened just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, at the CL&P building located on Cemetery Road.
Upon arrival, police said the two suspects fled on foot. At that time, State Police K-9 was called in and a track was conducted.
During the track, police were able to locate one of the suspects, 45-year-old Randy D. Lachapelle, of 280 Water St., Canterbury. He was found on Railroad Ave. on the railroad tracks and taken into custody, police said.
According to police, the second suspect then attempted to make police leave the scene by calling in a fake 911 call to State Police Troop D. However, it was discovered that the call was fake and the search continued.
Police were then able to ping the GPS of the suspect's cell phone, and located the man, 50-year-old Peter Denning, of 171 Poquonnock Rd., Groton, on Academy Hill Rd. Denning was placed under arrest.
Lachapelle was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal attempt to commit, and sixth-degree larceny.
Denning was charged with third-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit, and sixth-degree larceny. He was additionally charged for making the false emergency 911 call by State Police.
