GREENWICH, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Greenwich man and his girlfriend were arrested after the man claimed to be assaulted in an attempt to ditch work, police said.
Around 9:45 a.m. Friday, police responded to Chase Bank, located at 21 Glenville St., for a reported robbery.
Dispatch told responding officers that the robbery took place in the area of Stop & Shop, happened an hour earlier, and that the victim stated that a black man assaulted him, striking him in the nose.
After investigating, police determined that the individual claiming to have been assaulted, 25-year-old Juan Cruz, had actually conspired with his girlfriend, 19-year-old Adriana Miranda, and fabricated the entire incident so that he could go out of going to work.
Additionally, police said Cruz had injured his nose the previous night when he fell down drunk.
Cruz, of 21 Melrose Ave. Apt #3, Greenwich, and Miranda, of 41 Oak St. Apt. #1, Port Chester, NY, were both charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident, misuse of the 911 system, and interfering with a police officer.
Both are scheduled to appear in court on March 8th.
