BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man was arrested after stealing medicine from a Bridgeport pharmacy, then threatening a security guard with a syringe.
The incident occurred Tuesday at a CVS Pharmacy on Boston Avenue.
Police said a loss prevention officer with the pharmacy observed the man, later identified as Christopher Somsky, put medicine in a bag and attempt to leave the store without paying.
The employee detained Somksy and brought him into a rear break room to determine if the store would press charges. When it was determined that Somsky had shoplifted from the store before, he told his manager that they should call police.
At that time, Somsky calmly stood up, pulled out a syringe, stated that he had AIDS and demanded the employee return his cell phone, police said.
The employee then fled into a bathroom and locked the door. Somsky fled the store with seven packages of children's Advil.
Somsky was later spotted in the area of East Main St. and Jane St. and taken into custody.
Police recovered four syringes, but it appeared that Somsky had already sold the medicine to an area store.
Somsky faces a first-degree robbery charge.
Bond was set at $7,500.
