NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven man has been arrested in connection with a 2011 cold case.

Brandon Sessions was arrested in connection with the killing of Kahson T. Douglas on October 28, 2011.

On the aforementioned date, police responded to Edwards St., between Orange and Livingston streets, after receiving reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old Douglas suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After investigating, it was revealed that the shooting followed an ongoing dispute which led to a physical altercation between the victim and the assailant.

On Monday, January 21st, 22-year-old Sessions, of Dayton St., New Haven, was arrested.

According to police, Sessions is a felon convicted of narcotics sales. Additionally, he was the victim of a shooting on June 13, 2011 at 43 Phillip St., and was uncooperative with police after he'd been shot, police said.

Sessions has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Douglas' mother thanked the New Haven Police for their hard work but she says the violence needs to end.

"You could kill someone but you're not hurting that person anymore. You're hurting the family and your family. Like nobody knows, my son is more than my son. He was like my best friend. He means the world to me," said Douglas' mother.
