WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A former accounts receivable clerk at a Waterbury nursing home was arrested Wednesday and charged with overcharging a 96-year-old woman's daughter for her mother's care and keeping the money.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, 46-year-old Virginia A. Soules was arrested on December 4th after an investigation revealed that she allegedly misappropriated $140,171.47 in patient funds.
On Wednesday, Soules was arrested for misconduct committed between October 2011 and October 2012.
Police said Soules allegedly instructed the daughter of a 96-year-old Meridian Manor patient to pay her $635 in cash monthly to cover part of the cost of her mother's care, even though the nursing home was only entitled to receive between $273 and $285.
According to police, Soules credited the correct amount to the nursing home's account and kept the extra, which totaled approximately $4,313.
Soules, of 22 Summer St., Waterbury, was charged with one count of second-degree larceny.
