NEW MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Pit Bull that was stolen from the Animal Welfare Society in New Milford has been found.
Late Sunday afternoon, someone broke into the facility and swiped the 6-year-old Pit Bull named Rocky. The dog is micro-chipped.
"So they had obviously yanked the door hard enough so it kinda turned and popped free," said Kelsey Lord, of New Milford.
Lord felt a tightening of her stomach when she got a phone call from a co-worker, telling her one of the 'Animal Welfare' kennels was alarmingly empty.
"She called me, she called the other workers, to make sure nobody had taken Rocky out for a walk," Lord said, "but none of us had him."
She continued on to say, "all I can think is he's a Pit Bull, somebody stole him, probably not with good intentions."
However, the story took a new twist on Dodd Road, not far from the animal shelter.
A day after his disappearing act, Rocky made a comeback.
"Some guy showed up at our door with Rocky," Lord said. "He found him last night, saw it all over Facebook he was a stolen dog, he brought him right now. We're thrilled, we're so excited."
Man's best friend's new friend even bathed him before his return. Rocky will now get a lock on his cage as he awaits his next journey: the path to adoption.
"We definitely think the guy got nervous, or whoever, got nervous, just dumped him back, just trying to get him out of his hands so he wouldn't get into any trouble," Lord said.
